Droylsden Detectives!

What a week it’s been in Year 3!

I’ve got to start by saying thank you for the outstanding homework the children completed about Droylsden – we had old photographs, facts about past and present, and one class member even made a whole booklet about our town! Amazing!

In English, the children have continued to look at ‘Charlottes Web’ and ‘King of the Birds’ and have enjoyed delving deeper into the text. We have been looking at the features of a diary entry and have also completed some spelling and grammar activities to help us with our phonics learning.

In Maths the children have been really busy working on their mental addition and subtraction skills and have used a variety of methods to help them including dienes, partitioning and jotting. We ended the week solving addition word problems and it was great to see the children applying what they had learnt to solve them!

Our topic lessons this week have focused on Droylsden – looking at arial view maps to identify different features of the town. We then made our own symbols to help us create our own key.

Our star of the week was Lizzie for applying her phonic skills to help her write some brilliant sentences which were all spelt correctly – well done!

Max made it on to our Extrodinary Zone for making his very own booklet all about Droylsden! This was a fantastic piece of learning and we were all blown away with the effort and time he had put into this.

Please remember children need swimming kits every Monday and PE kits every Wednesday.

Have a great weekend everyone!

Miss Andrew 🙂
